The debut album is locked and loaded!
After a painstaking (but thoroughly rewarding) writing, recording, mixing and mastering process over the past 18 months to 2 years, the debut album is set to drop.
It explores a lot of issues that are deeply personal to me, and explores the parts that our DNA and upbringing play in shaping who are and can be.
Like many people, I have battled with depression over the years and have felt the depths that it can take you to. This was set against a background of a father that struggled with depression, but who, for whatever reason, decided to take out his issues on me from time to time.
Whether inevitable or not, this ultimately had a large impact on the direction that my life has taken, and adversely affected a lot of my relationships. Although my wife Leanne has stuck by me over the years, it has taken a large toll on her too.
Hopefully, the release of this album, while cathartic for me, will also help to positively impact the lives of others as I hope it will. Sure, it explores some dark times, but ultimately it finishes on a positive note.
I’m a firm believer that we need to be resilient in life and that we can face up to the challenges that it throws at us, just as long as we hang in there and try to keep positive in the face of the haters and who ever else wants to bring you down.
Musically, inspirations for this record include Steve Stevens, Billy Idol, Sevendust/Clint Lowery, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Def Leppard, Queensryche, Chevelle, 10 Years, The Art of Anarchy, Tool and others.
Personally, I want to dedicate it to the likes of Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington who both suffered from depression to the point where it caused them to take their own lives. No matter how bad life can get, the down times will always fade away. No matter how bad you might feel in a moment, this will always pass.
I can’t wait to share some of my journey with you as captured in this album.
